The word has been used as an insult to black people for centuries. I'm not saying that the word is racist but the context it's used in is usually racist (when white people use it)

Nappy hair refers to afro texturized hair. It usually was used to describe messy, unkept or tangled hair but i know a lot of black folk have taken the word back, describing it as just simply natural hair. I personally don't have a problem with being called nappy headed by fam or w.e, it's usually the context that it's used in that deciphers if it's meant in a demeaning way...

Its not a racist term by itself but people use it as such because they only refer to black people have nappy hair when that's untrue
