Taylor is America's sweetheart. She can do no wrong.
Plus, she wasn't nearly as promoted as Beyonce.

wow, i knew people were bitter over the way praise is constantly dumped on her from every direction (and yeah, i think shes overrated myself, even though i like her a lot both as a person and an artist) but some of these lies on this site

i assure you, the GP worships Beyonce', but thank you for your concern.

Bey was the most promoted and, rightfully, she is the one who brought in the most viewers. But she can only do so much with that terrible show.

But I don't understand why people aren't blaming Katy and MIley since much of ATRL was claiming they were some of the main reasons the 2013 show got high ratings. And, yes, both Katy and Miley were promoted in ads as "special appearances" + both won awards. And Taylor was the one debuting her new single which is "#1 on iTunes!1!1!"

The VMAs cater to the general public like any awards show.

Okay, I absolutely adore Taylor Swift. I love her to death. But her vocals were not great the other night, nor did she give a really mind-blowing performance. That's not a bad thing, but obviously it's less likely that the general public is going to talk about that. Beyoncé, on the other hand, not only won three awards for her actual videos, but also received the Video Vanguard Award and gave a highly anticipated performance of every song from her latest album. It's a rarity to even get Beyoncé performances at every award show considering how little promotion she's done this era, so... It was a big deal. And Beyoncé's performance was much more memorable and iconic. Not to mention, she confirmed that she and Jay-Z had not separated by having him and Blue come and present the award to her. Obviously, Beyoncé is more likely to make headlines.

Had it not been for ATRL, I would have already forgotten about her involvement in this year's VMAs. Her performance is nothing more than an afterthought in the midst of everything else.

Anyway Beyonce pulled in most of that 8.3..just look at the 2012 ratings when nicki,Taylor,pink,Rihanna & Alicia performed.the show had 2 million less than Beyonce despite having more A-list stars.

Hunny no need to bring my fave. This is about Beyoncé failing to bring in viewers. They never *****d out Rihanna making the show about her. And if they had, I'm sure the show would have had more viewers as the world is interested in my faves music, not just her Personal life.

I love how people are saying Gaga, Rihanna, & Brit bring in the ratings...

and yet they can't even get a 2x platinum album in the US..

You can bring in the ratings, but it doesn't mean their gonna buy your stuff.

Ratings were probably a bit low because there weren't huge comeback performances. Last year we had Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and many more. Now only Jessie J and Nicki Minaj made a comeback.
