VMA ratings down b/c Gaga, Brit, Rihanna not in attendance
According to Nielsen, the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards averaged 8.3 million viewers for the night, down 18%
Aside from 2012′s dismal 6.13 million viewing audience, this year’s show was the lowest-watched event since 2007′s Video Music Awards. (The highest? 2011′s show, which averaged 12.4 million viewers.) In addition to Beyoncé, the night featured acts like Ariana Grande, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Iggy Azalea and Jessie J, although fellow pop divas known for their memorable VMAs moments (both on and off-stage) — including Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Britney Spears — were not in attendance.
Nothing but the true, Beyonce is a fantastic performer, she just has never had the pull that girls like Britney, Gaga, and Rihanna have. Even if Britney and Gaga are flopping they were just in another level of global super stardom. We saw the superbowl ratings going down, now this, and this might keep going if the big shows wanna rely completely on Beyonce. I think MTV is the one to blame, Beyonce got paid got honored and had her moment, good for her. But she doesn't attract viewers in the GP, who knows why.
