There's nothing exciting going on except for Nicki and Taylor as of now.

Because M is absent obviously.

It's kind of silly to assume that ratings = album sales. For example, I tuned in to Nicki's performance because I was expecting it to be a hot ass mess. Did I buy Anaconda? Nope! Will I buy her album? Nope!
These names draw curiosity. Not necessarily album sales.

I don't know why you guys are bringing up GaGa. Miley completely overshadowed her last year. She slayed from 2009 to 2011 but she's lost her spark.

Anyways, you guys expect WAY too much each year. YOU GUYS set your standards way too high and expect something amazing to happen each year. Just enjoy the show without expecting too much. This year, the only thing I cared for was Miley winning VOTY. I simply just enjoyed the rest of the show and the funny shady looks from Celebs.

It wasnt interesting or exciting at all.
The fact I didnt stay up all night, didnt know the exact date, didnt bother check at least who won the next morning.......... Before it was like something important. :\

Disappointed this year.

Lol. Gaga brings nothing. Her performance in 2011 was overshadowed by Adele and Beyonce, and her 2013 performance was overshadowed by Miley. Gaga hasn't been a factor at the VMAs since she swept for "Bad Romance."

People like Beyonce, JLO, Gaga, Bruno, Usher and Justin give great performances but miss that certain element of what Madonna, MJ, Britney and Eminem brought back in the 80s/90s/00s.

No matter how good a performance is...if it misses the wow factor it will be forgotten by next year but at least all that I mention still give good tour performances. I do miss the day when VMAs were water cooler talk for like a week after the show.

I think it has to do with the progressive era of social media and how you can watch all this stuff so it makes it hard for people to be as excited for this event.

I hope someone can bring mindblowing performances back soon...

I think the last really exciting one was 2009. Every one since then had a "highlight" moment but in 2009 the show was messy but very entertaining from beginning to end.

They have become a mess, the awards are always rigged, most of the nominees do not even attend... The only good thing are the controversy and some of the performers but they get worse every year

I'm still waiting for 2011's ceremony to be topped. That was such a big year. Gaga, Adele, Britney, and Beyoncé all in one night was crazy.

I honestly don't think it will be though.
It was a great performance like most of hers are...but like most of her performances they are not iconic or really remembered. I mean I used to be a stan back in the 1st two albums and objective while she did amazing with CIL and Ring the alarm...they are not remembered not even her SL one was and she won video of the year. If I weren't an ATRLer I'd be struggling to find a memorable vma performance from her.

She did amazing but outside of the vanguard package the performance alone will not set the world ablaze and be iconic and remembered in my opinion but I guess only time will tell

Because the greats like Brit, Madonna, Mariah, Shakira and Janet have abandoned this joke.
