BEYONCE felt really artist, in a really great way, but there was nothing on there that was like "the GP are going to eat this right up" like with Crazy In Love and Single Ladies. It felt more like "the critics are going to eat this right up."

It still slays though, but there were no songs on there that sounded like they would be huge pop hits, or what the hive might label "generic."

Would it not first have to be released to radio? All of Me was an urban hit last year but never caught on on top 40 till he performed it at the grammys. No gradient in quality. The only piece missing was exposure

All of Me didn't blow up until Top 40 radio got behind it after his Grammy performance. Thats what these girls seem to forget, TOP 40 is PROMO!! If a song is not on Top 40 the chances of it slaying are slim to none.

I don't care about songs going #1 with or without promo. I'm saying that if Beyonce keeps releasing singles and never promotes them, it's her fault if they underperform. If she doesn't want them to underperform, then stop releasing singles! It's really as simple as that. Why would you keep releasing singles if you don't want them to sell?

Again, as I said before, the singles are barely pushing up the album's sales so that isn't the reason behind releasing the singles.

This may have been an accurate statement during the 4 era when radio was clearly obsessed with the whole electro dance pop songs but in the past year it's been more eclectic with songs of varying genres becoming unlikely hits ie Rude, am i wrong, the man, all of me. Hell even DrIL crossed over to pop w/o an impact date.

That's a false equivalency. Beyonce is one of the biggest artists on the planet, if not the biggest. She doesn't need as much exposure as John Legend. The release strategy for BEYONCE was so huge that even non-singles like ***flawless have iconic lyrics. Exposure was never a problem. If she'd performed Partition on TV a few more times, I doubt anyone who listens to radio and pays attention to current pop music would have gone "waiT a second...this is a bop! What's this song called?"

It's perfect example for those tryna imply on the sly that a song is not good enough if it doest become a bb hit. Its even more laughable considering the fact that US music scene is way behind the curve on thd airwaves scene. I mean a song like, "Rather be" was a hit in Europe in early summer n its only just catching on stateside recently.

And I'm saying she's not doing a self-titled medley to sell anything. I think she's simply doing it because it encapsulates her artistic vision for the era. Each song got a music video, so she'll perform a medley of them at the music video awards. It only makes sense.

Not everything has to be turned into a "singles artist"/"albums artist"/"quick lil singles" debate. She's doing it purely for the artistry. She's not trying to increase her sales. She wouldn't even notice it.

Didn't Dark Horse sell 1-2M before she formally released it as a single and promoted it?
