Because it's a horrible song and I know she's capable of so much more (Love Story, Back To December, All Too Well, etc.). She's one of the few artists who I dislike working with Max Martin.

I went away right after SIO came out and had no wifi so I wasn't on here or anywhere else I normally am. The song was on repeat for three days and every single person I came in contact with loved it. Everyone I talked to was so happy about it and enjoying it. Then you go online for a minute and apparently it's racist and the worst song ever. The internet is not indicative of the real world.
Shake It Off is an awesome song. It may have a horn sound which like two other songs have right now but it's not even remotely similar to those. I don't think it sounds like anything on the radio right now but since it's Max Martin, it's "generic." No one can sit here and complain about lyricism when it has much better lyrics than WANEBGT. It's catchy, it's different, it's fun, it gets the job done and people are responding to it.
It's honestly beneath me to even read these comments. People can have their opinions but what good is an opinion when half of the posts here are biased (because local Taylor is more sucessful than their faves) and exaggerated because they legitimately can't think for themselves and want to jump on the internet hate bandwagon.

I wouldn't say hate. It isn't as good as her other lead singles but it's a cute song.
I think part of it is that Taylor fans have been acting pretty cocky as of late so everyone wants to bash it (see: Little Monsters, Hive) and also that her country fans are disappointed, and are being very vocal.
She's already shown she can do pop well, I'm not too worried for the album
Taylor can do much better than this. It doesn't have the story-telling narrative that she's so good at.
I do love the song though, it's catchy and has a great message. I just think this is a poppy lead single ala WANEGBT that shouldn't showcase too much of what the album is.

The vocals are bad and the lyrics aren't great either. It's nice that it's not a love song I guess but it's not like this is some groundbreaking subject matter. The whole song is a cliche, right down to the haters gonna hate lyrics it's just not a good song. It will smash though.
