Kats keep repeating the same thing over & over again.
No one is attacking Katy...the only thing that confuses most of us is that she was continually putting out these videos 2 weeks before Roar, hinting at a darker era.
Putting ha wigs in a casket, burning ha wigs & etc....and all this was done AFTER the album was finished & da 1st single was chosen.
So why then, she was posting those videos? Thats whats confusing.

Because she isn't confident enough to take risks. Other artists like Rihanna and Gaga can go dark because people actually believe in what they're presenting. If Katy went dark no one would take her serious. Why would anyone want her too anyway? Not everyone can have a TFM era.

She burned the California Gurls wig (one of the most iconic things from the TD era) as a symbol of leaving behind that era, she wasn't saying that she was never gonna use colorful wigs again

Its really not that hard to understand. The vidos were teasing us, and showing Katy preparing herself to let the light in and start this era, She never planned to release a dark album. Its like Gaga saying shes gonna release the album of the millnium and yet She releases another dance album. (no shade)

Leaving what behind exactly? Because she's still wearing colourful wigs, making the same music, dressing up just like she used to during TD (or even worse).

ATRL would have criticized a dark era just as much so at this point who cares? She can go in that direction with her next album if she chooses to.

But there's your answer to the OP.
"Why PRISM isn't a dark album?" (poor grammar btw, should be "Why isn't PRISM a dark album?", fyi! )
To which the answer is: Katy went through a dark period in her life (her breakup with Russell Brand) and was feeling low and described her upcoming record (wasn't even PRISM at that stage, as she said this in Early 2012) as "real ****ing dark".
Easy-to-digest answer: 'PRISM' was never supposed to be a dark album.
And there you have it!

However, the creative process behind "PRISM" turned it into quite a different beast from what even Perry expected. "I was really inspired by this little six-minute thing by Eckhart Tolle where he speaks about loss," she says, referring to a video from the author of the best-selling inspirational tome "The Power of Now." "When you lose something, all your foundations crumble-but that also leaves a big hole that's open for something great to come through."
According to Perry, "PRISM" began with a process she calls "slow cooking." While on tour promoting "Teenage Dream," she began recording fragments of ideas into a dictaphone on her iPhone. Then Ngoc Hoang, a member of Perry's team at Direct Management Group, transcribed them and put the results into a "treasure chest" that Perry referred to throughout the album's creation. Perry notes the sessions for "PRISM" began to "dibble-dabble" last November, when she went into the studio with longtime collaborators Greg Kurstin and Greg Wells. "I was still in a dark place," Perry says. "I hadn't let the light in."
When sessions for "PRISM" began anew in March, however, Perry had already gone through an intensive period of self-examination. "I took a trip to Africa that really put my priorities in perspective and started doing more work on myself," she says. Renewed, Perry reunited with her creative team from Teenage Dream, spending a month in Santa Barbara, Calif., with longtime producer Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald, frequent songwriting partner Bonnie McKee and Henry Walter, aka the young studio mastermind Cirkut. From there she headed to Stockholm to work with Scandinavian pop maestro Max Martin for a few weeks to put "the icing on the cake." In addition to those power players, Perry tapped such hitmaking collaborators as Stargate, Benny Blanco, Juicy J, Jonatha Brooke, Sia, Christian "Bloodshy" Karlsson and Klas Ãhlund of the Teddybears. (Perry shares co-writing credit on all of the tracks.)

That was a joke & Gaga had mentioned it in a following tweet to a fan. That tweet wasn't meant to be taken seriously.
And yes, ARTPOP is a fun dance album & thats exactly what Gaga had promised.
You tried iT tho.
