I really think Taylor Swift will be platinum by the end of 2008. Already 600k copies and will probably stay in the Top 10 for a while. And of course Christmas is coming, so I'd say its a definite possibility.
No I am not shocked. Taylor sure is great, which makes people buy her album. She makes good music plus her music videos, so it isn't a surprise at all.
I was surprised how well she was able to cross over last year with her singles and after how well "Change" and "Love Story" was I was expecting her to break records. As for her music her voice isn't really that great IMO but she knows how to manipulate to the best of her abilities and her personality always shines through. There's also something about her writing style that I really like as well. I've been trying so hard not to go out and buy her album but I think I'm going to cave pretty soon.
Taylor has done something amazing in that she has managed to break into multiple markets. Unlike many teen artists she is well respected in her genre. I mean at the ACM in June when she performed "Should've Said no" she got a standing ovation and her albums always get good reviews. Country fans are primarily adults and they are the ones who actually buy albums which is why country music is doing so well. But she has not only the adult country market in her pocket but also the teen pop one. "Teardrops on My Guitar" has been played so much on top 40 radio where I live over the past year and a half that I honestly have to turn the station every time it comes on. I love it but it's one of the most overplayed songs of the past year and it shows that she is the definition of a crossover artist.
The fact that she makes music that appeals to kids, teens, and adults is why I think she is doing well where others are failing. She has one of the broadest and largest fan bases of any artist out right now and I think it's going to help sustain her career for a good while.
No, not really. Her albums are good and she has a fanbase.
It was funny. In class one time, our AP Psychology teacher had us go to one side of the room if we liked Kanye West's music and to the other side if we liked Taylor Swift's music, for an activity and Taylor won 3/4 of the class and Kanye got 1/4.
