One example I could think of is:
Katy Perry and her record label's absolute desperation for her to beat the Michael Jackson record of 5 Billboard number 1's from an album. The Kanye West remix of E.T was the first obvious push for a number 1 but then the remix of Last Friday night with Missy Elliott on it was even more obvious and then they discounted it which meant it got to number 1 and tied MJ then they released The one that got away ( at the name) to beat the record but it only got to number 3. They then re-released the album and released Part of me which got to number 1 but didn't count as it was from a re-release.
Born This Way- TEOG video, Scheiße and Hair being snubbed over Judas. MTN flopping.
ARTPOP- DWUW missing top 10 because of no video, G.U.Y. failing to reach Top 10, Top 20, Top 30, Top, 40, Top 50, Top 60, Top 70.
