I think she meant she wouldn't trivialize the gay community, like she wouldn't just channel/pretend to be gay for a hit. Wherein I Kissed A Girl sensationalizes homosexuality, Born This Way celebrates it.
What she said is what she meant. Channel and trivialise are not synonymous. "I Kissed A Girl" doesn't even have a focus on homosexuality, she follows the line with, "Hope my boyfriend don't mind it." It's addressing that many young straight women would kiss other girls for attention.
