Born to Die & certain songs on Ultraviolence are very melodic. I would recommend listening to BTD first & not judging it until you've listened 4-5 times.
And from UV, if you want melody, I would first go to: Shades of Cool, Brooklyn Baby, West Coast, Ultraviolence, Sad Girl & Florida Kilos.
Find BTD and LP1 very melodic tbh but Ultraviolence isn't. I love Ultraviolence for its LQ sound and the lyrics (PWYC ) but they aren't similar enough to compare.
I was offering some type of rationale to those who don't necessarily "get" her music. It's not a type of music that features infectious hooks or melodies.
Basically, it's not meant. I think that's one of the points. If you're a huge pop radio listener, then don't listen... or chances are you won't like it.
What defines melody btw? I feel like some of the songs on the album, while obviously more moody/atmosphere based, still do have melody. It just isn't as blatant as a Katy Perry Dr Luke produced track.
Like... it's not something you can listen too while driving, or studying, or with friends, or walking down the street or anywhere. So yeah, maybe I just don't get it
