why does this "new" IOS8 feature looks so much to Google Now?

This. It is more of an aesthetics affair. I don't got why a phone should be bigger to be better. Like there are iPads for a reason.

iphones are pretty much mid-range in term of technology. They still sell the 4 and 4s in a lot of countries, you might as well consider them low range.
