From 1999-2004 she was on her way to pop legend status. ITZ showed major experimentation with her sound and hinted at a Madonna-like evolution. Then her personal life went off the rails and she came back as an automaton drone churning out mindless radio filler and lip syncing/dancing poorly. It's not her fault really, but she's lost any chance of being a "pop legend" in the eyes of the GP. She just didn't evolve at all.

We got validation when she became the fifth best-selling female artist of all-time, only behind Madonna, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. This is just icing on the cake

Only legends. Love it. Except I only really like Britney, Madonna, and Abba, you can't deny the legendary status of anyone there.
