In Kansas City yesterday and today, they've been purposefully showing news scenes and photos with little children and some other minorities. Looks like they are trying their own damage control to keep this contained in the St. Louis area. People are already commenting on them and condemning them for trying to make the issue seem like it's only a one area thing, when racism exists in every major metropolitan community. Acting like it doesn't exist, instead of straight up addressing the issue at hand.
I'm watching the livefeed...but I have no idea what's going on or what this is about.
An innocent, unarmed kid called Mike Brown was killed by police and African-Americans are rioting, yeah?
Is that the gist of it?
I hope this doesn't sound offensive, but does anyone have any good (for lack of a better word) news report videos or footage of the situation so I can get caught up on what's going on? Thanks
On one hand, it's tragic that they're causing this much destruction of property, and are stealing so much stuff by looting. Those are private businesses and they didn't ask for any of it. But on the other hand, what else can you do in the face of police brutality? You can't fight back or you'll get life in jail. You can't write up an opinion piece on the internet because nothing will happen. Yeah, they're stealing and destroying private businesses, but what else can they do to capture attention and shine a light on a really serious issue. Like you've got to realise how serious it must be to be driving people to this point.
This is like the 1992 LA riots after the beating of Rodney King. And they went on for nearly a week. This is all just history repeating.
It's been 22 years and nothing has changed. People are just as angry and they're angry for a reason.

Black people weren't the only ones rioting and looting, but according to people who live in Ferguson those people had nothing to do with Ferguson and the rioting eventually stopped.
The actual protests were peaceful and this was the result
And the media was banned and threatened so no you won't find anything unless its from social media.
My teacher believed the Trayvon case would cause race riots similar to the Rodney King but it might be happening here with police vs citizens fighting for their rights

Oh ok. Forgive me. I've only just found out about this and a quick search on Youtube mostly came up with people looting convenience stores.
Do you have any other good sources/videos? I'm actually really interested in this now.

Well most of what I got was from social media due to the fact that the police forced the media out and even made it a no fly zone. There have been News reports but I think the first hand accounts on social media show more.
And my parents wonder why I don't recognize the "great country" that America is supposed to be. I'm ashamed to be a citizen of this nation. It's ****ed up and it's tragic that the older generation and people in general sill regard the US as the land of the free. Disgusting.
It's sad because the violence and looting was mostly done by non protestors. They were just taking advantage of the situation. And even if the Ferguson, Mike Brown protestors wanted to escalate to violence in order to call more attention to the cause, only smart people would be able to grasp it. Everyone else would immediately presume they're just being reckless "thugs." Which sucks because that's what they're being described as anyways.
They can't win. How anyone can be enlightened to this and still deny instutionalized racism is beyond me.
As an objective outsider, I stated my opinion on who would make a better president. How is saying someone would be a better president than someone else, trolling?
Why so she can quit just a few years in when things get tough? You know she quit her lesser job. Is that what you want in a president? A strong quitter. It speaks to your "objectivity".
