Idol died when the WGWG started winning each season and the market became over saturated with singing competitions. Idol used to be the only talent show in the states on regular TV (MTV and CMT had their own) but Idol was an event. Now you don't get attached to the talent because every few months someone new is shoved down your throat.
I've watched Idol since season 1 and was a big fan until this past season It was just awful, I couldn't remember the winner's name and had no idea his album was being released this week
