This is such a stupid thread. Katy Perry is a superstar. Katy Perry is a brand, a household name. Ariana will never replace her. All she has are a couple of features, and she sounds like Mariah, so she has no identity.

No. Although I think Katy's music is garbage, I can see why she is as big as she is. She does have legitimate pop hits, and her songs are tailor made for radio. Ariana's music is way more urban and I feel like she is headed more in that 90s R&B direction.

Also, Ariana's age just might work against her, notice that all of the truly huge female music stars (Rihanna, Gaga, Beyoncé, Katy, Britney) are in their late 20s to early 30s. Point: it takes time and lots of work to build a career in this industry.

Katy's past three singles:

Dark Horse: went #1 with literally 0 promo, stayed at #1 for a month with the help of a Grammys performance and the music video (the most viewed music video of the year so far), and stayed in the Top 10 for 22 weeks (her longest stay in there so far).

Birthday: flopped (only went Top 20/gold/Top 10 on radio)

This is How We Do: was only sent to radio two days ago, already in the Top 80 of iTunes and gaining consistently.
