Could Ariana's SMASH HIT Break Free have went #1 in the UK if it wasn't for the UK Top 40 instant-grat rule?
An instant-grat single is a song you automatically get when you pre-order an album. But the Official Charts Company only allows 1 instant-grat song per album to chart. She already has charted with Problem going #1, thus invalidating Break Free.
Break Free has been steadily inside the the top 10 of UK iTunes for days now, she's just dropped her new video which will add to the streaming points and there's also other streaming sources e.g. Spotify.
I'm pretty annoyed actually because I think she could have had a shot. Thoughts?
YouTube views don't count towards streaming in the UK.
But yes, it could have considering it was released with no promotion in the middle of the charting week and still made the iTunes top 10 and almost made the top 5. All this was before the video was even out. If it had been put up for pre-order a few weeks in advance, allowed to build up on radio and released after the video release, it could've went #1.

Oh mess I didn't realise that .
So sad, her label should have done that. She deserved that 2nd #1 .
