You guys act like it's so easy to become famous on YouTube.. These people are basically comedians, except on the internet. Since forever Hollywood has been this "exclusivie" club where you get by with connections, a studio, or an agent. It should be celebratated that anyone can become something thanks to the internet

They are just as much entertainers as actors and singers

The only one I'd consider famous would be Jenna Marbles or the girl who just recently got a TV segment/show/something. I don't know her name, though. The rest are just Youtube-famous.

Because they have hoards of young fans, and adults who want to seem 'current' acknowledge them as more prolific than they actually are. As big as they are, you're still talking about a verrrrrry niche demographic who actively follow YouTubers. Ultimately, this is just like MySpace years back with the likes of Jeffree Star.

Can't speak for Viners as I have absolutely no interest/experience with them. Perhaps furthers my above point, because I'm someone with heightened online interest (post on forums, watch YouTubers) and even I'm clueless there.

I do, however, think that YouTube is yet to truly demonstrate its power as an entertainment source. When it starts creating high profile content (shows, series, movies), offering it on demand (Netflix) and celebrities really embrace the powers of vlogging their personalities (DIY reality show with the perks)...then we'll see it.

I don't understand those Viners because pretty much all of them are disgusting, but YouTubers I can understand. Even I am a "fan" of a lot of YouTubers. It's clear that being on YouTube can be an actual career and therer are a lot of nice people on there who create amazing content and can fullfill their dreams because they have a lot of supporters.

A lot of YouTubers put effort, time and their money on their videos, just to make their viewers happy. They are entertainers, just like in the movie industry, just on a smaller platform.

Of course, there are a lot of asshole YouTubers as well, but looking for the right people helps.

They have millions of fans so while they may not be well known by the GP their famous with in their demographic. YouTubers work hard editing and investing in their videos. Most of the big YouTubers seem nice too. Viners though

I agree. I'm fine with youtubers, but vine is filled with talentless try hard people.

They're starting to grow rabid fan followings comparable to 1D's. None of them expected them to be as big as they are now. Sure they're still unknown with the GP but they're all over social media so it's hard to avoid their fans.

I don't understand how people from Vine are considered celebrities. You make a 15 second video. WTF? Some Youtubers put hard work to what they do, like Michelle Phan and artists started from Youtube like Justin Bieber, But Viners , I don't get how they become celebrities when they just make stupid 20 sec videos. . To me, they are not real celebs and these award shows need top stop acting like they are.
