You don't really need the Retina Display, so if you are looking to save a few hundred dollars that might be the best route. I have the one with Retina Display, though, and although it isn't something that I necessarily need, it is absolutely stunning. Not only is the display amazingly crisp thanks to the pixel density, the colors are vibrant yet still natural, it gets very bright and very dim, and it has very good glare resistance and viewing angles. So, for me, the Retina Display was worth the extra money. If you are going to spend $1,000+ on a laptop, you might as well go all-out, right?
IIRC the normal MBP hasn't been updated in a while and honestly you're not going to miss the disc drive. I've never needed one while I've used my Retina. The Retina is more future proof, thinner, and the screen is amazing.
I bought the Pro the retina one is known to **** up. SO if I were you I would go with the pro without retina
No it isn't the only issues the Retina has ever had was image retention or screen discoloration but those issues were resolved with last year's update.
