While most Beyonce and Jay Z fans bought a ticket to watch the duo perform at San Francisco’s AT&T Park, residents around the city got a free show — whether they wanted one or not.
Thanks to a common weather phenomenon, people miles away were able to hear, and some of them weren’t happy about it.The phenomenon is called an inversion — it occurs when a layer of warmer air sits on top of a pocket of cold air at the surface. This warm layer acts like a ceiling in the atmosphere, preventing air from rising above it.
It also reflects sound waves back down to Earth. So while Bey’s bass was bumping away, it was being blasted across the city through Mother Nature’s speakers. The San Francisco Giants, who hosted the event, apologized for the situation. “As a result of the complaints we got last night, we actually have been working through the night to make adjustments to the sound system so that we’ll avoid a similar situation for tonight’s show,” The Giants spokesperson said in a statement.
