Really. MTV created a "Best Summer Song" category last year to get 1D to attend for ratings . This year the category disappeared and they weren't nominated for one MTV award.

Lorde (Pure Heroine) sold 11000 in the US last week, so the gap is closing by more than 6k every week. Lorde about to overtake 1D's latest album in US sales though!
