There's only so many global superstars that they can get to perform.
And if they got a band like Nickelback or HAIM to perform, or an artist like Pitbull or Jason Derulo, everyone in here saying "pffft, lol, no! Absolutely no way!" to Rihanna would come on ATRL and whinge about what a joke it was that they picked Nickelback or Pitbull.
Yeah, there are some artists who will probably perform before Rihanna, like Pink and Maroon 5. But not because they've had more impressive careers or more hits. But because they're more family friendly.
If Rihanna cleans up her image, I'm sure she'd be asked. It's not like "oooh, but will anyone know any of her songs?" is going to be a problem. Narrowing it down to just 5-6 songs would be the problem. Maybe they'll ask her after 'Home' has come out, and depending on how explicit and provocative R8 is. But even she doesn't clean up her image, it's not like she'd get up on stage and start patting her vagina at the Superbowl.
She's sold out arenas and stadiums all over the world. She closed the Paralympics with Coldplay and she's not even English. Stop acting like it's the most ridiculous suggestion of all time.
Fair enough if you want to say "lol no way! Rihanna isn't and never will be on Beyonce or Madonna's level!!!!1111" but...Beyonce and Madonna have already done it. There are only so many artists they can choose from, and Rihanna's career is already established enough to justify a Superbowl performance.

Shania Twain was in the middle of an era with an 11X platinum album when she did it. Janet Jackson's album prior to the superbowl sold 7M copies. Michael Jackson had a huge era before, and a huge era after. And Bruno Mars just performed there. So what is this business of it being for flops? Take the tired shade elsewhere.
Yes but she should wait until she gets to a stage in her career where she stops getting hits and needs extra push to create buzz for a new era/tour. She doesn't need it now
