The Kevin Liles thing worries me. He's a "good" manager, but his track record with Trey Songz doesn't necessarily set my heart aflutter. Trey has been struck in a rut musically and has been releasing the same album for the last three releases.
Like most of y'all have said, she needs FRESH, NEW direction musically, which is annoying because she doesn't need-need it (as her music is solid). But she does need it from the standpoint that the public need something new from her sonically. Almost to wake them up from their slumber towards her. Something to make 'em go "damn is that Mariah Carey!" and not "oh, the song is cute but it sounds like a watered down We Belong Together"
Then again, maybe that'll be the role of what ever label she signs with next...if at all she plans to leave Def Jam. She literally needs all new everything. New management, new label, new A&R, and most importantly a new perspective of and for herself.
Does it really matter? What hit has she had in the last 10 years that doesn't have JD's name on it? Say what you want but changing producers and management isn't going to help. The public has moved on. Ariana has replaced Mariah.
The news arrives on the heels of disappointing sales of Carey's 14th studio album, Me. I Am Mariah ... The Elusive Chanteuse, which has sold 103,000 copies since its May 27 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and falls off the Billboard 200 on the chart dated Aug. 9 after just eight weeks.
She could have saved her last three or so albums if she'd ditched that tired urban-pop sound she's been using for years on end Hopefully this changes her sound/direction.
That sound is her own doing though. At best we'll dodge anymore JDs/Bryan 2001 productions.
Already posted, but he was the least of her problems. I won't go into details, but had she listened to him, the album would have sold a lot more out of the gate. The issue isn't the managers, it's that she won't listen to them. Her last three managers left for the same exact reason.

A lot of tea being held in this single post. What else was going on so grandeuse that this problem seems miniscule? Did JD quit and what was his plan she didnt listen to? And why didnt she listen to JD since he is one of the people I think she trusts?
