Buzzfeed is a very liberal website though. I agree that their sexuality shouldn't matter, but to ignore the fact that conservatives are going to pick this up and run with it, and use it as an argument when debating gay marriage and gay adoption rights is just naive.
If they weren't a gay couple, this wouldn't be making international news. It'd be making state news (maybe national news) at most, because it's happened to straight couples before. Buzzfeed didn't use the clickbait of "gay" because they're a pro-gay website. However news stations like Fox, who have a conservative agenda (of being anti-gay and anti-marijuana) will run with this. And websites like DailyMail who just want more clicks to get more money from advertisers won't give a **** if they offend anyone. They just want more clicks.
I'm just saying, it's all very well for a bunch of gay teenagers and gay guys in their 20s on a forum about female pop stars to say "oh what does being gay have to do with it..." but not everyone is going to have that position. In fact a LOT of people aren't. And recognising that others are going to make a big deal out of it isn't terrible reasoning, because like I said, the websites who are including the fact that it was a gay couple either just want more clicks/debate in their comment sections (like DailyMail) or they actually have a conservative agenda, like Fox. Just because it doesn't matter to us, doesn't mean it's not going to matter to others who hear about this story.
I mean, good on Buzzfeed, but not everyone is going to take the high road and their mature stance on reporting this story.
