Statement from hospital:

In the early morning hours of Monday, August 4, 2014, a male patient with high fever and gastrointestinal symptoms presented at The Mount Sinai Hospital’s Emergency Department in New York City. The patient had recently travelled to a West African country where Ebola has been reported. The patient has been placed in strict isolation and is undergoing medical screenings to determine the cause of his symptoms. All necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of all patients, visitors and staff. We will continue to work closely with federal, state and city health officials to address and monitor this case, keep the community informed and provide the best quality care to all of our patients.

What makes you think that a highly contagious virus that shows no symptoms for up to 3 weeks carried by someone in the most populous city in the US wouldn't spread?

Isn't it only spread by direct blood contact anyway? It's not likely to become an outbreak in developed countries.

They aren't contagious during the incubation period. The only way they can spread the virus is if they're showing symptoms. Sierra Leone has a population of over 6 million, with poor healthcare infrastructure and only 255 have died. 255 may seem like a lot, but that's less than .005% of the population.

I seriously doubt if this spreads, but the FAA and government are being a little too nonchalant about shutting down flights from Western Africa.

^Sierra Leone isn't nearly as densely populated as NYC/USA, Sierra Leone still has small villages, if this'd spread to their capital they'd have a problem too

Nope, you can get it from any bodily fluid, including sweat, and since people's skin (and hand palms) can sweat, you can get it from touching someone who has the disease if you are very unlucky

In the public health courses I took during my undergraduate years, I learned that the next deadly global pandemic will most likely be a resistant strain of the Flu virus. Since the flu is airborne, it will spread a lot quicker and densely populated areas like New York will have the highest rate of fatality.
