Pokemon serves the basics in terms of Gameplay. Pokemon is no longer unique etc. It's legacy is what is keeping it alive. But in all honesty, if Nintendo pushed X & Y as the first Pokemon game, you'd all be and wouldn't buy.
"Are okay with it" not happy with it. That's the point. Nintendo know they can give very little and know you will love it. And graphics aren't just there to look good. They offer new gamplay elements.
& that's true, you don't need realistic graphics. Most Anime based RPG games aren't realistic but still look good and play good.

This is coming from someone who used to play Pokemon all the time, and I still have my original Gameboy Colour with my Pokemon games. I stopped playing after B&W. It's just boring now.

The graphics on X Y are great.
They had to animate over 600 Pokemon that's not easy.
Most people who play Pokemon don't care much about the graphics. They care more about the new Pokemon and types and how it will affect the meta game.
Besides, XY is one the most acclaimed Pokemon games.

Not only that it brought a leap in graphics and but a huge leap in the way people battle and trade around the globe.
- wonder trade
- the player search system
- the brought out EVs through secret training.
They are all amazing and intuitive.
Go play your basic ass gameboy color and don't come for XY plz.
