Supreme Court Won't Duck Gay Marriage Cases - Yes In 2 Yrs?
Might be here 2016 or sooner
Quote:
The Supreme Court won’t duck the issue of same-sex marriage the next time a case comes to the court, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says.
The 81-year-old Ginsburg said in an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday that she expects a same-sex marriage case to be heard and decided by June 2016, and possibly a year earlier.
Attitudes have changed swiftly in favor of same-sex marriage, which is now legal in 19 states and the District of Columbia, Ginsburg said in her wood-paneled office on the court’s main floor.
She predicted that the justices would not delay ruling as they did on interracial marriage bans, which were not formally struck down until 1967.
“I think the court will not do what they did in the old days when they continually ducked the issue of miscegenation,” Ginsburg said. “If a case is properly before the court, they will take it.”
The comment marked something of a change for Ginsburg, who previously had been seen as wary about the court getting too far ahead of the country in ruling on major social issues.
Quick notes:
The appeal furthest along now is Utah.
There are 5 Supreme Court judges who have ruled for gay couples and 4 that haven't. Most likely it will be approved with a 5-4 decision (please )

Ginsburg lies. Kennedy, Roberts, and Kagan will make every excuse, and find any loophole to not rule on a case.
at this rate, the majority of states will have already struck down their own bans by June 2015, let alone 2016
but supreme court could put this to bed by acting on this quickly
It'll be up to 20 soon.
It's up to half the population if you count those who let couples marry already and over 2/3 if you count the states with a stay.
They need to just accept that this is happening and move on already. I can't at this still being an issue when the opposition doesn't have a single argument against it besides "bcuz GAWD SAID SO!".
Also, shocked the number of states are already up to 19 It'll be half the US soon

6th and 7th Circuits will hear oral arguments this month and the 9th (all of Western USA) will hear theirs next month If they all said yes then it's Middle America left, expect stays in most though
They need to rule on this already because it's so effing ridiculous how in states like Florida, you have to rule county by county before it even reaches the state.

Federal (statewide) case is pending
But I agree.
Actually it's only been Florida so far the rest in state courts knocked down the ban completely
My home state, Virginia, slayed this week on this issue. But it's becoming tired with each state arguing back and forth, the Supreme Court needs to do a sweeping ruling. There are much bigger things to focus on, like our debt, immigration, and climate change. We've become so messy, tbh.
Oklahoma's filing their papers to send the case before the Supreme Court.
Virginia's seeking an extended stay to give them time to file to the Supreme Court.
Utah said it was going to do that as well.
