What exactly are electoral votes?
Don't you just count everyone's votes and according to who gets the most votes, the winner is decided? :-/

No, unfortunately we have to be complicated

Every state has a certain amount of "Electoral votes" which depends on each state's number of Senators and Representatives, my state has 2 senators and one representative, so we have 3 electoral votes. Whichever candidate (it was Obama in my state) wins the popular vote in that state gets the electoral votes for that state (so all 3 in my state went to Obama).... you need 270 total electoral votes (out of all the combined votes for all 50 states) to win because there are 538 in total, half of 538 is 269, and you need a majority of 270 to win the election.... even if a candidate receives the majority of the popular vote nationwide (the total number of votes that they received by the actual citizens who voted, not the electoral college), they can still lose the election due to electoral college vote tallies, but that will not be the case here.... Obama will win both probably.
