It won't do too good, considering that Problem and Break Free did absolutely nothing WW. Ariana is the definition of local.
Problem was a major hit all over Europe, and did well in Oceania and Asia. I heard it so often when I went to Portugal. There are many local girls like Becky G and Taylor Swift, but Ariana is no longer among them.
Not you comparing an artist who has recently released one album with someone that released 4. What kind of failed comparison
Let's wait until Ariana releases her album. She's fresh in this industry. Her recent album was 1 year ago. Ariana may have not been nominated in the recent grammys but she will DEFINITELY win one with Bang Bang & Problem alone (and she hasn't even released a video for Break Free to discuss further sales). Meanwhile your fave is 13 whole years in this industry and hasn't even won 1. Fact is a fact.

While also being considered the voice of this generation by time magazine and the only singer under 30 to be considered one of the best singers of ALL TIME by Rolling Stone. Then we will chat about success. Christina Aguilera will sell more records in her lifetime than Katy Perry will ever. So sit n spin.
why are we even talking to Ariana stans??!

more like 15M with an EP of 8 songs as a re-release ...in other words...2 albums!

I kinda agree that it's inflated. Especially when some of you call an album that sold 3M in a half of a year "flop", but then suddenly an album selling 3M in the same amount of time (or nearly a year) is "huge success". Like, make up your mind.
To the topic. I'd say, time decides better. For example, if album sells 2M in a couple of months and then stops selling at all, it's more of a "flop" than album which is selling 2M in a year but continues selling.
For now, I personally think this era is successful. Not mindblowing, but successful. (not really sticking to my memory, tho).
What is successful these days though? Sales for everyone have been tragic. So I'd say that for today's standards, her album sales have been a success. Her singles are where it gets weird. She's seen the biggest hits of her career and 2/3 of her under performances have occurred this era.

Could someone finally give me some examples of these over 3M selling albums that are apparently flops?
No. The only other female album of the last few years to sell 3 million WW is Beyoncé. Album sales have decreased and considering Katy isn't even considered an albums artist yet still outsold albums by other girls who are considered albums artists speaks volumes.
And two #1s is more than any pop girl has had in 1 era since Teenage Dream. The fact that she didn't get three #1s in one era again is not relevant because most pop girls can't do that once in their career so there's no reason why Katy should have to do it twice.
This era, she won the Top Female Artist award at the BBMAs and PRISM had the second highest opening week sales for a female album of the year. Not to mention her touring power has quadrupled since last era.
Ummm sweety, are you forgetting about RED by Taylor Swift & The Truth About Love by Pink??
Beyonce is on her 5th album & with no Roar's kind of hits but managed to hit 3,5 WW. Pink's 2012 album has sold over 4m albums WW and that's without counting the 2m coming from the US. The truth is Katy can't sell big amounts of albums WW, we've seen it with TD, even with the huge success of her singles, the album struggled to hit 6m WW. She's still releasing singles and promoting but having poor album's sales. Her released singles don't make people go out and buy the album as they should be doing and that's her weakness point. Every huge pop girl out there has released two or more 6m albums at some point of their careers but Katy has failed to do it so far and she's supposed to be at her peak right now.
I think Prism is a successful era much in the same way that BTW was, but of course both pale in comparison to the ones before them (which haters use to exaggerate things).

If Taylor is seriously your ideal of local while Ariana is not...

No. It's underrated. If Beyonce or Gaga had two 5m+ smash hits right now. #1 Global Female IFPI, Top Digital Artist and Top Female Artist, #1 VEVO music video of the year..... their stans would be like they are the second coming
PRISM has sold 3,126,000 WW & 1,448,000 in the United States, she also had 2 6x Platinum #1 hits to support the album and has only moved half of what her previous album sold. With that being said, do you think that the success of the album is inflated?
And why have albums that have sold just as much as PRISM been deemed as "flops"?
Let's discuss .
Do you expect an album that's been out for less than 10 months to sell as much as one that's been out for 4 years? That doesn't happen to artists very often. so bye with that.
What albums that have sold as much as PRISM are being called flops?
