Okay, I've played both, and, as expected, RB2, to me, is better, though WT definitely has its charms, which is more than I could say about GHIII. I especially dig GHTunes, because some of the songs that people are creating are, actually, really, REALLY good.
I'm sure that Shade will come in and pretty much give a verbal blowjob to GH, but I'm going to be unbiased here. No, really.
Both of them have their advantages. RB2 has a *huge* selection of songs as soon as you buy it, thanks to its DLC, while WT has the song creator and GHTunes. But, at the end of the day, it just comes down to what music you prefer.
If you don't have the peripherals, that's another matter entirely. Both WT and RB have been known to have faulty instruments. Do some research, if you want to(), and find out what would be best for you, if you don't have any. (On a side note, I think the Les Paul from GHIII is the best guitar game guitar ever created, even if I'm not a big fan of the game it came from.)
Both of them are fine games, and I'm actually considering buying WT. At the end of the day, I still prefer RB2, but I can see why people like WT a lot, too. But I'm not choosing for you. You are your own person with your own thoughts and opinions, and I'm sure that they're good enough to make a valid choice.

Well you asked for it
World Tour imo has a much better tracklist and doesn't have as much filler as RB2. Difficulty wise: WT also has a harder set of songs. DLC wise, RB has more at the moment, but GH plans to release at least weekly stuff (already planned is Hendrix, Raconteurs, Oasis, Smashing Pumpkins, Jack White, etc.). The IGN review for WT is complete ********, don't listen to it.
If you have the money to buy one bundle and 1 game, do that. If you can only get 1, my vote easily goes to WT.

As you said, "in your opinion".

The thing about that is that we, as in you and I, like to assume that people just play on Expert, and nothing else, when we both know that's not the case. Harder songs do not necessarily mean "more fun", especially to those who aren't good at the games, like us. Now, I'll give WT credit for implementing a "Beginner" mode, but RB also has a "No Fail" mode.

Yeah, and just how much DLC does Rock Band have, including the RB1 export? Do you REALLY think GH will catch up to that?
I prefer RBII but I have no hate toward GH.
I think RBII has the better tracklist. Like expected, GH has the harder guitar and RBII has the harder drums. Since I'm better at drums than guitar, that is another reason for me to prefer RB.
