Gaga has definitely had an impact on pop music and pop culture. To deny that is simply delusional.
But one thing her fans continuously get wrong is that she brought dance-pop to the mainstream. Even if Gaga paved the way for Kesha's dance-pop, Britney Spears paved the way for Lady Gaga's dance-pop with 'Blackout.' And Madonna paved the way for Britney's dance-pop with 'Confessions.'
It was a trend. It was an unstoppable trend in the evolution of pop music that was always going to happen. A bunch of gays can fight over the internet over which female pop star is single-handedly responsible for it, but at the end of the day, the answer is none of them. Pop music evolves slowly and incrementally. Dance-pop and electronic music was inevitable. No pop girl "invented" it.
Exactly. Gaga was just clever/lucky enough to cash in on that trend at exactly the right time and the quality of her music stood above anyone else doing it, for a while at least.
How come pitbul hasn't had a hit since? I mean his only released 100 tracks since.
Now sis, I know you aren't implying that Timber was Pitbull's only hit.. He's had many before, and he'll - sadly - have many more to come. Just give it time, damn. He released like three songs after Timber

I think they mean all the new stuff she's been doing the "weird arty" performances and costumes. None of that would have been possible without Gaga doing it first

Just because it has a similar sound doesn't guarantee it will smash.. If that's what you're implying, then you're saying that all songs that smash have a similar sound which further implies that all of Katy's songs which have gone #1 are similar and generic.
Songs smash because of their sound AND lyrical content. The GP needs to be able to relate to them, or the songs needs to be incredibly simple or meaningless so that they can easily swallow it up.
Katy came before gaga. Katy doesn't release music similar to gaga's. Gaga released dance music; katy releases pop music that sometimes has electronic influence. There's a big difference, and the fact that these two are so frequently compared makes no sense, because their music is very different.
I hope the mods don't close this thread. I know that it's kind of flamebait-y, but there aren't any actual fights and drags going on, just discussions which are mildly civilized
