Right in the Bible it endorses stoning women who aren't virgins on their father's doorstep as she has shamed him and the whole village, and I'm pretty sure the Quran does the same thing (how else would they have the honor killings, insane rape laws and penalties for premarital sex, etc). These ideas are instilled upon us early on, that a woman is only as good as her chastity, hence a women who gets around is 'damaged goods' -- just see parts of fundamental Christian/Muslim Africa, where women who have been raped are often punished or even given the death penalty because by coming forth with being raped they have indirectly admitted to having "fornicated". Places that hold onto these traditional values treat women as products for the exclusivity of their reproductive organs basically, and like it or not we in the west are still heavily influenced by these belief systems, so we've all been indoctrinated since childhood with some of the concepts, the value of a woman's purity (or the concept of 'virginity') being one of them.
