Conservative right-wing Christians are often Islamophobic, so they'll try and tell people that Islam is completely different to their religion, but it's really not. Of course there are some differences, but Islam is the closest religion out there to Christianity, apart from maybe Judaism.

If it's fake, then why'd the Vatican want it for $28M?

There are many other manuscripts that obscure the divinity of Jesus Christ. The Gospel of Barnabas is not the only one. The copy of the Gospel of Barnabas itself has been appraised to be worth $28 million due to its rarity, not that the Vatican actually paid for it in that amount. There are criterias to be measured for a book to be considered canonical. The most important is apostolicity. It has to be written by an apostle or someone who had a connection with one of the apostles. The Gospel of Barnabas being written 1,400 years after the time of Barnabas means it absolutely has no apostolic support.
