The warning and conduct is dependent upon the advertisers' wants according to the mods, and so then I'd assume the advertisers are actually paying a fair bit for their opinion to have such weight. You guys realize this site is just something the owner does on the side/as a hobby, right? And it happens to be a pretty expensive hobby, not something he's making a living off of.
Joe said in an "ask the owner" thread earlier this year that he has to keep a lawyer ($$$) on retainer because of copyright claims (users re-posting articles, being dumb enough to post download links, and maybe posting Mediabase stuff?). Then you have to factor in the cost to run a site that supports 2000-3000 users on average, and potentially thousands more when something big happens with Gaga/Katy/whoever. And then they're in the process of doing a major upgrade right now.
So I don't think it's really so much that the advertisers are lavishing the admins with all this cash... more like this site would simply not exist without advertisers. And if the content on this site gets too explicit, ads could easily be pulled:
