Canadian Fertility Center Bans Mixing Races To Avoid "Creating Rainbow Families"

"A single woman in Calgary who sought in vitro fertilization at the Regional Fertility Program was told she could only use sperm donations from donors who match her own race.

Administrative director Dr. Calvin Greene confirmed to the Herald that the private facility, the only one of its kind in Calgary, refuses treating anyone who wishes to use donors of a separate ethnicity.

“I’m not sure that we should be creating rainbow families just because some single woman decides that that’s what she wants,” he said. “That’s her prerogative, but that’s not her prerogative in our clinic.”

Greene added that the clinic’s doctors feel “a child of an ethnic background should have the ability to be able to identify with their ethnic roots.” "

A child's a child. It's race shouldn't matter to either the parent or the clinic. As long as it's healthy I don't see the problem.

It has nothing to do with being hung up and more to do with not being a racist ass.
This is NOT ok. Why should it matter if families mix?

Rainbow families is a huge mess.
But this, is actually a legitimate concern that comes up a lot with white people adopting babies from other countries or races. And not just just by other people, the people adopting themselves know it's something they have to actively work on. Of course, can't say the doctor isn't using it to justify his anti-rainbow families mess, or that the woman wouldn't be doing everything properly.

I am not saying it's okay. It's weird that they would say "no" to her but why would she want specifically a mixed child? You'd think that a person who can't have children wouldn't be so picky.
In case some of you don't get what I'm saying let me add: this just reminds me of those people who go to a sperm donor clinic or something and they request a child with this kind of hair, or a child with that kind of eyes.. it just seems vain and annoying to me. Like it's not a build a child workshop. But if she thought she really liked the donor because he was smart and handsome then that's fine.

biggest shook of this all is that this is a clinic for Canada....

Who's hung up on mixing what are you talking about? If people want to mix their child they should have that right.

yeah of course she should have a right to have a mixed child but I think it should be because she thinks the father is smart and attractive and not because she just wants a mixed child. By "hung up" I meant that why should it matter what the child is, not why should it matter what the clinic does because that's obviously discriminatory. I just think it's weird to come to a clinic and want a child that looks a specific way. I explained that in my last post. Sorry if the first one wasn't so clear.
