The A7 chip has the power. It's been confirmed by enough tech analysts.
If Apple are making the next MacBook with the A7 in mind, it can work. They wouldn't do something if they knew it couldn't work.

I'm pretty sure Apple know what they are doing. They have been doing this since most likely, before you were born.

Who has the best build quality? Apple.
Who has the fastest ARM processor at present? Apple. (The Snapdragon 801 is the only thing that comes close and yet all the phones with it aren't as powerful as the A7).
Who has the best life expectancy on it's products? Apple.
Who has the best customer replacement policy? Apple.
Etc.

So yes, we prefer paying a premium price knowing that in nearly all instances, if something goes wrong, we can get a new phone. Not to mention we are paying for top build quality, the fastest processor, and knowing that our product doesn't have to be replaced within two years.
Which is why you see so many people still using the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s, and rarely anyone using a Galaxy S1 or S2 etc.

The majority of people buy their phone outright. Which then means the iPhone isn't as cheap.
