omfg you have got to let this argument go. She said that like one time in 2012 during an interview on Ellen. An interview that happened right after she was going through her divorce. Arguably the darkest period of her life, which is reflected in the song 'By The Grace of God.' She had dark purple hair and had dark lips during the time that 'Part of Me' (the film) and 'Wide Awake' came out. But her "dark" era didn't last long.

The whole concept of PRISM is that she thought it was going to be a dark album, but she realised that wasn't her. She didn't want to be dark and negative. That's not who Katy Perry is. So she "let the light in" and it dispersed into a rainbow of positivity - like a Prism.



Because that's who Katy Perry is as an artist. She's rainbows and kittens and cotton candy and bright colours. Her music videos see her playing comedy characters like Kathy Beth Terry, Jane of the Jungle, Goldie the dancer and Princess Mandee, because she's comical, colourful and conceptual. She doesn't take herself or life too seriously. She's just fun.

Besides, if she did do a "dark era" and was writhing around in a puddle of black goo with 12-inch, black, latex stilettos with guns or penises for heels, everyone would be like "omg she's copying Gaga. She's trying to be Gaga."

Like why do monsters on ATRL continually shade Katy for remaining true to herself as an artist? Isn't that kind of contradictory to the message of ARTPOP? Katy knows who she is as an artist, and who she is happens to be bright, colourful and highly-conceptual. Stop clinging to this comment of "it's going to be a bit darker" that she made in some Ellen interview from mid-2012. She changed her mind. She didn't want to be dark/depressing anymore. Get over it.

Plus if she went dark she wouldn't be family-friendly anymore either, and those 5-6 year old fans who you try and shade for liking her will probably still love her in 10 years time, meanwhile Gaga isn't cultivating new fans, she's just maintaining the same, diehard, devoted, teenage stans.

She knew this because she (and her producers) were paying attention to current, pop music trends. She released a disco-pop song with 'Birthday' which "only" peaked at #17 which is a flop by her standards, because her standards are so high. She released a trip-hop song with a really hyphey urban beat (Dark Horse) that went on to become one of the biggest songs of her career. She experimented with traditional, oriental sounds on 'Legendary Lovers' and 'Unconditionally.'

You only say "pfffft it's exactly the same as Teenage Dream" because it's slaying and there's no other insult that can be used. And I mean, even IF it was exactly the same as Teenage Dream, so what? She scored five #1 singles and the sixth single hit #3. Then with the reissue, she got another #1 and another #3. She tied the Michael Jackson's record with it. Obviously she and her producers know what they're doing. Pop music changes incrementally. And if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And that's exactly the difference between Katy and Gaga. Katy's sound wasn't broken. She didn't need to fix it. Gaga's sound was broken. She did need to fix it, and she didn't.

Also, sorry for making assumptions about you not going to music festivals, but you made assumptions about me. You assumed that I was really young and wasn't knowledgable on EDM. And that could not be less true.

And I agree. Swine is an amazing song. I love it. Just because I pointed out that it wasn't original in the slightest doesn't mean I don't like it. I love it. It's a great song. But there's no point bragging about how innovative Gaga is when that song is far from innovative.

I still use/like ARTPOP It's just not what I would have expected from someone who between 2008-2010, I was obsessed with and was expecting to be the next Queen of Pop. I think everyone expected a lot more from her, because in 2008-10 she was so, so promising. And she's not living up to the world's expectations.
