It's ok but you can't act like gay is wrong but lesbianism is perfectly ok just because you find one attractive and the other unattractive. Like... it's extremely hypocritical.

Anyway, lately I've been thinking about how much the world really hasn't changed. It's been consuming most of my thoughts, actually. In terms of racial equality, we've definitely progressed, but when you look around it's still Seeing the new Purge movie this weekend really got me thinking.
When you go into some of the poor areas, it looks so pathetic. How can billionaires let people live this way? Like...the ****? Why are there liquor stores on every corner? Why is there a fast food restaurant at every corner? Why are there no gyms? No LA Fitness? No health food stores. No Whole Foods. No Starbucks. No Target. No Panera? It is so transparent how wealthy areas are full of opportunity while the poor are given whatever leftovers remain. Our people are set up to fail. And it's a continuous cycle, it's depressing.

I was talking to someone about this the other day. In Englewood (an infamous Chicago neighborhood known for being a dangerous ghetto) a Whole Foods is being built. There is some change but it seems like that change only occurs when gentrification is present. HOWEVER, (here comes the Republican in me) I do not think it's a billionaire's responsibility to make sure the poor black folk are taken care of. That belongs to the politicians who lied and deceived their way to office. They are the ones who are supposed to be bettering the area. Now there's definitely controversy over how to better an area and gentrification always seems to come up. Personally I think an area can be bettered by starting at the root, education. But I won't even pretend like I have all the answers, just ideas.

it isn't their responsibility, but I often think that if I had all of that power and money I'd b alot less passive
in trying to resolve these issues. no trickle down ****.

And that's great. I would be too tbh. I'm sure there are some that do try to effectuate some type of change, but it isn't their sole duty and purpose as a wealthy person.

As maiko said, if I was a billionaire, I would at least try to help others. And I would make sure the money goes to the RIGHT places. But I agree, Deuces, education is a great place to start. Many of the education systems in our country are full of corruption. I was talking with some people the other day about how there seems to be an ongoing mission to dumb down our Black youth, make them forget about their ancestors, etc. We were talking about the discrimination that happens in schools in terms of punishment (whether it is purposely or not). Black children getting more severe punishment for doing the same things their white classmates do, etc.
I never took African-American History, so most of what I know about our history is self-taught. And I still have so much more to learn. But honestly, I shouldn't have to take an AA class to learn about Black history. I should've learned about that in my regular History classes.

Yeah. The Euro-centric education is a mess. At my college they have distribution requirements, which includes culture requirements. We have to take one class in each of the following: NOR (which is North America) which is understandable because we live in North America. Then you have the EUR (Europe) and AAL (Africa, Asia, Latin America). Why the hell is Africa, Asia, and Latin America combined into one? So we basically have to choose whether we want to dive into African or Asian culture, but we are FORCED to learn about the flaky ass saltine crackers and their history of torture and imperialism.
