Depending on where you live its either 1 vial of blood or just a quick finger prick.
It's especially important if you sleep around a lot because they also test for other STDs such as chlamydia and syphilis (this is rising in the case with men who have sex with men) which sometimes have no symptoms at all.

It is better to know and get it over with than living in fear not knowing. The earlier you know, the better it is for you to prevent it moving onto the AIDs stage.
