Fame and fear: Celebrities who had crazy and dangerous stalkers
Björk Stalker - Ricardo Lopez:
Ricardo Lopez, a socially isolated pest control officer from Florida, became a Bjork fan in 1993. He wrote a series of diary entries about Bjork. He regarding her as a daughter figure because of her child like looks and voice.!He sent many fan letters and followed her career extensively. In early 1996, López became distraught at Björk's relationship with fellow musician Goldie who was black. In his videotapes and writings, López identified her as a "N****r lover". Lopez began documenting his plans to kill Bjork in a series of eleven video diaries for revenge. The videos showed López ranting about philosophical issues, about Björk and her relationship with Goldie while making a special bomb. The bomb was disguised as a book that was planned to be sent to Björk's record label,!Elektra Records. The device was intended to spray!sulfuric acid!at the opener, killing or disfiguring them. Each video also showed how delusional and suicidal Lopez was becoming. In his last video, he shot himself in the mouth. Detectives from Scotland Yard were able to intercept the package!before it could harm anyone. After the suicide of López, Björk spoke out publicly and expressed grief for López and sent flowers and a card to López's family. Björk also increased security on her son, Sindri, who was escorted to school with a minder. In her few public comments on this event, Björk later said it was hard emotionally and it disrupted her life and work in London, explaining in part why she chose to leave the UK scene for good, reject her cute image, and began to write more personally with her album!Homogenic.
Justin Bieber stalkers - Dana Martin, Mark Staake and Tanner Ruane.
45 year old Dana Martin, who was serving two life sentences in New Mexico for the murder of a 15-year-old girl, enlisted the help of his prison buddy Mark Staake 41, and Staake’s nephew, Tanner Ruane 22, in a!plot that involved the murder and castration of Justin Bieber!and his bodyguard. Martin, like millions of preteen girls, caught Bieber Fever. "He's an attractive kid, everybody knows that," says Martin, annoyed at having to explain his crush. "Justin Bieber is warm and fuzzy. He's talented. I liked his music." Martin downloaded every song he could manage and eventually amassed 52 on his Department of Corrections issued mp3 player. He quickly became more fixated on the musician than on the music. He tattooed a picture of Bieber on his leg and later became sexually attracted with the young singer.
"What are you trying to get me to say, that I love Justin Bieber and think he's gorgeous? He's a good-looking kid. Would I go to bed with him? Yeah. He's legal, so probably."
However, Martin was upset the singer ignored his attmpts of contact and wasn't a fan of Bieber's bad boy imaged. He called him a phony but still hoped the violent act would raise his notoriety. He hired Mark Staake and his nephew!Tanner Ruane to stalk and kill the singer while he visited New York for a sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden and to have them find Bieber and!castrate!him with garden shears so he could have his, uh, "parts" as a souvenir. However, they were arrest a month before the plan was put into action.
Beyoncé's stalker - Bassey Essien
Beyonce!stalker Bassey Essien convinced himself that the!real!Bey had been killed by an impostor Beyonce who was living the pop star's life.
Essien sent Bey threatening letters back in 2009, probably claiming to out her as a fraud. He also tried to give her a book of his own religious writings when he met her in 2009. When Beyonce performed in London at the Sound of Change concert, Bey's security detail was briefed on this guy to make sure he was no where near the singer. Beyonce won an anti-harassment order against Essien in the!British High Court in 2011.
The story of Britney Spears and Masahiko Shizawa, the man who was stalking her in 2002, is definitely a weird one.
It all started when the Japan native, who was said to be madly in love with Brit, began sending Spears love letters, e-mails and pictures of himself along with messages like "I'm chasing you." A restraining order was issued, but Shizawa still stalked Brit outside two of her houses as well as her parents' home, trying to gain entry wherever he could.
Then, in an odd turn of events, Shizawa ended up trying to!sue!Spears after a confrontation ensued with her bodyguards outside of her house. He claimed he suffered "extreme emotional stress" after one of Brit's protectors pointed a gun at the man. However, the case was quickly dismissed.
Justin Timberlake
Stalker: Karen McNeil
In 2009, Karen McNeil, pictured above, showed up at Timberlake's house in November of '09!claiming!that she was God, and that she and the 'SexyBack' crooner were destined to rule together. She also said that "Babylon witches" were after her and she feared they were going to cast an evil spell on her. Of course, authorities promptly took her to a psychiatric facility.
This was not the first time McNeil showed up to JT's L.A. home either. Timberlake said she had gotten through the gates before, and that she claimed to know him.
Prior to stalking the 'Suit & Tie' singer, McNeil was obsessed with Guns N' Roses frontman, Axl Rose, and was arrested several times outside of his home.
In 2012,!Madonna!was in fear for her life for the second time, as the man who was convicted of stalking her in the '90s escaped the mental institution where he was committed.
Robert Dewey Hoskins was deemed a huge threat and was first sentenced to 10 years in prison for stalking Madge in 1996. He had been obsessed with the Material Girl for years, and her bodyguards were forced to shoot him when he hopped the fence at her Hollywood Hills home. He claimed that she was his wife and when she rejected his proposals, he became violent and threatened to slice her throat from ear to ear.
Hoskins served his time and was later transferred to a psychiatric hospital after another arrest, but he escaped from the facility in early 2012. He was apprehended by police in February, and taken back to the Metropolitan State Hospital in Norwalk, Calif.
Lady Gaga may live for the applause, but has no problem combating her naysayers, even if they are former friends. The singer spoke openly of her fiery feud with gossip blogger Perez Hilton, which heated up when she felt harassed by him during an interview. "He started asking me really terrible questions, and he was being very negative about Born This Way, and we had had a lot to drink," she told Howard Stern in an interview, in reference to questions that framed her third studio album a failure, according to the Los Angeles Times. “He was supposed to be my friend and I felt betrayed, so I started crying. And then my friend had to come in and pull the camera out, they wouldn't turn the cameras off.
"And then he apologized, but I sort of felt like it was like, 'But I'm Perez Hilton so I'm allowed to treat you this way.' I looked at him and said, 'Just because you are who you are, does not mean that our friendship doesn't mean anything when the cameras turn on. So, now I see who you really are.' And I was done after that.”
Hilton was an early supporter of Gaga’s and often promoted her work on his blog, and confided that he truly wanted to stop bullying celebrities online. Yet he has had no mercy for her fourth album either, asking his Twitter followers to opt instead for Christina Aguilera's disappointing Bionic album instead of Gaga's ARTPOP.
"He's just mad that I don't want to hang out anymore because I don't want to be around fake people. I really believed, when I first met him, that he wanted to change. I really believed that he wanted to bully people less on his site and that he wanted to move into a more positive space. I was really there for him and I really supported him."
She then claimed that the blogger had applied to live in her apartment building, after she asked him to stop sending mean texts and tweets her way. “He put an offer in on two apartments in the building. Why do you need to live in my apartment? There's only one reason: to try to hurt me, or harass me, or blow yourself up. If you hate me, hate me from over there. Continue firing away on your blog and your Twitter." At the time, Hilton responded to THR with a statement that such wasn’t the case.Gaga boils down any “silly” problems others may have with her and her music to another musician. “You know, the whole thing is really rooted in Madonna -- that's sort of the center of it, and no one has really said that or admitted to it," she told Stern of the constant comparisons. “There's this thing with some people that I'm a 'threat to the throne' and I don't want your ... throne. And no thanks, and I have my own. And I don't actually want a throne at all because I don't view myself as a queen. I view myself as one of my fans and that's it."
