I played tha **** out of it, but no.
Playstation 1 era encompasses the 90s - Tomb Raider is much more iconic for instance.

Hmmmmm, well, it's definitley in the top 10/5 or so. But I dunno... Final Fantasy VII, Super Mario World, Ocarina of Time....

Yes. Sonic 2 drove Sega to number 1, beating Nintendo for a number of years. The game is a staple in a list of classics. If it ain't number 1 on your list it is a top 5 and that just the way it is and will always will be.

I do agree that the PS1 itself is more iconic than the Sonic franchise, but not by much.

yes It was .. even if sonic 3 and knuckles is the best, the cultural impact felt from the sonic 2 machine is undeniable.
