Argentina icon Diego Maradona feels Lionel Messi did not deserve to win the Golden Ball following his performances at the World Cup.
The Barcelona star beat the likes of Thomas Muller, Arjen Robben and James Rodriguez to the prestigious individual award after scoring four goals in seven appearances at this summer's tournament and guiding his team to the final, yet Maradona feels the 27-year-old only won it for commercial reasons.

"Messi? I would give him heaven if possible," Maradona said during his show on Telesur
"But it's not right when someone wins something that he shouldn't have won just because of some marketing plan."
I am still pressed by FIFA tbh. Give it to Muller or Robben. They were the core of their team and even Muller has better stats and he actually defends the ball while Messi stays in the background for like the past four matches Argentina was in.
I love Messi but he just didn't deserve it one bit.
But y'know I died when Maradona self-dragged himself with the "it's not right when you win something you don't deserve..."
Tbh i expected more from messi..i was watching the game just to see him doing his thing..n i didnt see anything..well i guess that doesnt change the thing he s one of the best players...

If Messi didn't deserve the award (which he does, specially if you watch Argentina's first matches), it should go to James or Müller tbh.

He deserves a Golden Ball because he scored 4 goals to Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria? Good ****ing bye. He won it for advertising purposes.
