Honestly, I used to get incredibly paranoid during gay love scenes. I would try my best to not draw attention to myself and would painstakingly look and make sure no one was looking at me. I tried so hard to hide my sexuality that it was probably exceedingly obvious.
They're just another scene to me. Sometimes they can be extra and all you really needed to see was a little peck before the couple went to another room. But as long as they're done right I'm for them I guess, it's a place that characterization could be snuck in too. Beyond just a shirtless scene let it be something else too (like have it be awkward, funny, make the viewer purposefully uncomfortable, anything.)
