LONDON (AP) — Madonna's spokeswoman said Wednesday that the singer and her husband, Guy Ritchie, will divorce after 7 1/2 years together.

A statement e-mailed to The Associated Press from Liz Rosenberg said that the couple had agreed to divorce, and requested the media maintain respect their privacy.

The statement, co-signed by Ritchie's representative, said the couple had not agreed to a settlement.

Madonna's marriage to Guy Ritchie really is kaput , her rep told the Daily News on Wednesday.

"Madonna and Guy Ritchie have agreed to divorce after 7 l/2 years of marrige," Liz Rosenberg said in a statement. "They have both requested that the media maintain respect for their family at this difficult time. A final settlement has not been agreed upon yet."

Rumors that the Material Girl's marriage to the movie director was in deep trouble have been flying - and denied - for months.

Sometimes it's good to be hush about it. Madonna was kicking off her tour and the last thing she wanted is for her personal life to overshadow her Tour. It's a smart move. And it took a while before they have taken the decision so why would they announce it before it officially happens?

I saw a photo of her in a ceremony I think..only a couple of days ago and she looked really hapy ..she was smiling to the cameras...I don't know...maybe it's the best for both.

Not the divorce, just the fact that they were having issues. I don't know why celebrities are so mum on this topic. Do they think that we expect them to lead perfect lives with perfect marriages? Actually, don't answer that, because it might be a "yes." But I know it's never true.

Anyways, I'm really starting to wonder what kind of impact this will have on how her next album sounds. I hope she and Guy and the children are alright.

Madonna is a very private person. Plus, I think it's unnecessary for celebrities or even normal people to go public about their personal issues. It doesn't make things better at all. Let alone being a celebrity whom already has their daily news on papers. You don't need to fuel it.
