I interpret this as a drag that a lot of singers get several demos/instrumentals sent on which they lend their voices if they decide to record it.

It's not a drag... there isn't even an implied target.

It's more like, "don't they know by now that I do my own ****?"

I can see their point ("artistic integrity"). But they both come off as slightly insufferable and don't see that getting offered some songs doesn't take away from their artistic capability.

You could view pop stars (and artists in general) as freelance work. You get jobs (songs) from others and decide whether it's for you or not, in which case you either work on your own projects (songs) or wait to get better offers (songs).

I don't think they are being arrogant/insufferable. If they are singer/songwriters then they don't really need the help from songwriters, they just need producers/marketing help. (of course they might have co-writers but it's normally people in their inner circle). So I would be confused too if people sent me songs to sing and I'm like uh, I write my own stuff
