The actual costumes aren't that scary to me. I think the sepia look makes them appear a little more haunting.

It wasn't that far past 1910, Mickey blew up on the spot so that could still be like 1930

In the grand scheme of things it's a short time but since it's 20 years in a comparison of 100 years difference (last pic) it's a sizable chunk of time.
