HONG KONG (REUTERS) - A British government report on Hong Kong expresses "serious concerns" about press freedom and self-censorship in its former colony.
"We believe that freedom of expression, including of the press, has played an important part in Hong Kong's success,"
"As such we take seriously concerns about press freedom, including fears about self-censorship," it adds, saying London would monitor the situation closely and noting Hong Kong leader Leung Chun-ying's "clear statements on press freedom".
Well............ All I know is that pro-Beijing parties keep being elected so whatever. It seems Press freedom is a significant issue in Asia including Singapore so I guess the big and orderly government is just a remnant of a lot of Asian societies, especially those related to East Asia.
What does Britain have to do with this, besides it being a former colony?
HK is still going by the laws Britain set before the 1997 handover (a deal lasting 50 years).
China was the one that wasn't supposed to interfere until 2047.
