EXCLUSIVE: There’s going to be a surprise new addition to The X Factor judging panel as it emerges bosses are introducing a fifth judge to the live shows who will mentor a brand new wildcard category.
It means this year’s series – which sees the return of show boss Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole, as well as new arrival Mel B and veteran judge Louis Walsh – could finally see the demise of the dreaded deadlock.
While the usual categories of boys, girls, over-25s and groups are set to remain, four wildcard acts will also make it through to the finals in a surprise new twist to the ITV show’s format.
And who is this fifth judge going to be? According to our source, it’s a toss up between Rita Ora and Mary J Blige.
‘Simon Cowell is planning on including a wildcard category which will be mentored by a mystery fifth judge,’ a show insider told Metro.co.uk.
‘There was a creative meeting three weeks ago and plans are now being put into action.’
Explaining the reason behind the new addition to the panel, the insider added: ‘A fifth judge will prevent the deadlock and add some spice to the panel during the live shows.
‘Rita Ora and Mary J Blige are currently in discussions with show bosses.’
Do people here still watch these shows? I watched Australian Idol 1 and 2 (2003 and 2004) and American Idol 3 (also 2004) and then stopped. It's the exact same show over and over. There are so many better things to watch.

In the UK people LIVE for this show though. Like teenagers, students, seniors, etc.
I like Rita but she's WAY too early in her career to make such a big commitment to a show like this full time. Mary J, if you ask me, but I'd rather someone with a little more hilarity, sass and star power.
