Quote:
The BBC One miniseries, in association with HBO, is an adaptation of JK Rowling’s global bestseller The Casual Vacancy and consists of three one-hour parts. Production begins on 7 July in South West England.
The Casual Vacancy centres on Pagford, a seemingly idyllic English village with a cobbled market square and ancient abbey. Behind the pretty façade, however, is a town at war: rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.
The Casual Vacancy is being produced by Bronte Film and Television, the independent production company run by JK Rowling and Neil Blair, who is executive producing with Paul Trijbits (Saving Mr. Banks, Golden Globe winner Dancing On The Edge”) and Rick Senat. It was commissioned by Danny Cohen, Director of BBC Television, and Ben Stephenson, Controller of BBC Drama.
Rowling tried too hard to be Mature and Adult, while not remembering to make the book interesting or well-crafted.
She is improving though; her adult book released this year at least doesn't smack of painstaking Effort.
Yeah, it feels like she's slowly getting out of that "I NEED TO SHOW EVERYONE IM NOT ALL ABOUT HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" mindset. I literally just finished the book she released 1-2 weeks ago, and while it still had its problems, it's easily her best post-Potter book.
Casual Vacancy also took me a while to read, but overall it was a decent book. I still remember the plot so that says something :P Some books I forget. Still have to read her two other books though :O
Her new books also gets pretty good ratings. Both are at least 4 stars or higher on Amazon Silkworm got better ratings in fact I wonder if she will ever try and do another Children's series, people would go nuts to read it
