So much for Eugenie's marketing triumph and being more marketable than Sharapova. Stacey must be on suicide watch.
The ratings could have been MUCH, MUCH better if they just promoted Petra Kvitova in the first place. Americans LOVE the comeback story, especially with Petra's up and down results, and then an inspiring comeback to the top, instead of this Sharapova wannabe crap).
Quote:
Wimbledon TV Ratings (USA/ESPN)
Women:
2014 Kvitova/Bouchard 0.7
2013 Bartoli/Lisicki 1.1
2012 Williams/Radwanska 1.4
Men:
2014 Djokovic/Federer 1.9
2013 Murrary/Djokovic 2.0
2012 Federer/Murray 3.1
The TV rating represents what percentage of TV households tuned in to watch an event. Example: A 0.7 TV rating means 0.7% of all TV homes in the USA watched the programing.
The Kvitova/Bourchard TV audience was 36% smaller than the Bartoli/Lisicki audience from a year ago. The Bouchard hype was a bust. It was no draw at all to the most important market in tennis. On a bigger note, tennis (ATP and WTA) continues to rapidly fade from importance on the American sports scene.
